After purchased by two new co-owners from Minnesota, they were moved to Minnesota, which has the motto "Land of 10,000 lakes". Hence the team's name became Minneapolis Lakers. After moving to Los Angeles in 1960, they still kept the Lakers name and officially known as Los Angeles Lakers until today.
